Jen zips around a group of students, only to come to an abrupt stop, when she is slowed down by a boy who has no sense of urgency to get to his next class.  Anticipating her new course, she shifts into gear and weaves and bobs around any obstacle in her path.  This is a typical scenario in the Enochs hallways.

This lack of courtesy happens everyday, although not every one causes it.  Others have the sense to think about how they are acting and be polite.  However, even the most intelligent people do not possess common sense.

These actions trigger pet peeves for others.  People find it quite annoying when they have to find a way around someone who stops abruptly.  It adds even more frustration when the word “excuse me” is said more than 30 times a day and often ignored.

The stairs are not only a use for traveling to the next floor, but an area to congregate and sit.  When walking up the stairs, someone else decides to come down in the same path, both assuming the other will move out of the way.  Another scenario is when the person next to you decides to change “lanes” and cuts you off.  A good rule of thumb is to keep to the right side of the stairway – that way there should never be any problem with collisions.

Then there comes the inconsiderate acts.  When someone drops their book or one of their belongings, rarely will someone lend a hand.    They will just look and sometimes laugh at the person, possibly bumping them to create more of a delay.

I will never understand the reason why students  drop things from above the stairs on unsuspecting passersbys.    Is the purpose to completely humiliate someone?    Instead they are the ones that appear the fool.

The halls don’t have signs that say “PLAYGROUND”, so stop fooling around.  There is no need to throw pencils at the ceiling and windowsills to try to land it perfectly.  The ground is not a trashcan -  Don’t just drop things everywhere when a trashcan is in plain sight and accessible.

Whether you’re a student or staff, if you need to have a sidebar conversation in between classes move to the side of the hallways.   BE RESPECTFUL! Remember karma can come back and bite ya.
